Blogrlab: An Introduction
by blogrdocI’ve been promising for some time now about elaborating on what I’m doing with this blog. This is the first installment of the explanation. I’ve blogged before about my thought construct in decision making/problem solving: minimizing variation where it doesn’t counts and maximizing variation where it does.
I’ve already said that I’m trying to raise money to get put some people into a home and help them earn their dignity back. I intend address this problem the only way I know how: as an engineer/scientist.
I’m going to try a number of different things and see what’s most effective in raising money. You’ve heard the advice: “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”, so I’m going to make a number of different baskets.
I call these baskets my “experiments”. Blogrlab is like an experiment of experiments. The purpose is to find which route maximizes effectiveness. I’ve defined the metrics of interest which I will optimize.
Perhaps the most important thing the reader will note is that my approach in solving this ‘effectiveness maximization’ problem will be as scientific as possible. Everything from the documentation, planning, problem solving, you name it. Yes, because it makes sense, but perhaps more importantly, cause I think it’s fun.
Let me just say that the $466 I’ve raised in the past two months has been some of the most interesting dollars I’ve earned in my life. Each time I’ve interacted with a customer, I’ve told them about my mission and have gotten a lot of encouragement. My experiments have put me into some very interesting life-situations thus far, which I am really looking forward to share with you.
