How to add searches to right-click in Firefox

by blogrdoc

Problem: There are various pages you visit to query data (e.g. ARIN whois, an company internal web-frontend for querying databases) and your computer is cluttered with shortcuts and/or you are spending too much time visiting the webpage, waiting for it load, etc…

Solution: OpensearchFox plugin.

Example:

In the above screenshot, instead of visiting the ARIN whois website, I just highlight, right-click select it and boom - the query is made and shows up in a new tab. How to get it?

Obviously, this only works with firefox. Download the plugin here: OpensearchFox

Once you install it.

  • Visit the webpage and right click the textbox you put the query keyword in and right-click it (see screenshot below)
  • Select ‘Add OpenSearch plugin’. You will be asked some simple questions to complete the addition.

create search , opensearchfox

Greetings, Leonidas! Very happy to have you as a reader!! I should mention that I use OpenSearch Plugin extensively at work. Throughout the day, I follow the progress of hundreds of computer-chip-product lots on our internal web system. If I ever need to query one of dozens of our internal databases, I just highlight and right-click. With these two brisk steps, a dizzying amount of information is literally available at my fingertips.
