when micromanagement is good
by blogrdoc
Okay, I know - ‘micro’ management has gotten a bad rap over the years, and for a good reason. However, I’m here to put in a good word for micro-management… that is when one is managing one’s own behavior.
Okay, I know… it sounds corny, but I think it’s a useful mental model. In ‘Four Hour Work Week’, Tim Ferriss provides examples for automating the way a business owner can deal with his customers. Well… not too many of us yet are business owners, but all of us have the daily business of doing mundane tasks. By micro-automating these task (as I have previously posted on), I believe tremendous improvements in personal productivity can be achieved.
In my work as an semiconductor engineer, there are countless examples where the microscopic-properties of materials have tremendous effect on their macroscopically observed behavior. Take, for example, all the buzz about nanotechnology, or even quantum mechanics and string theory. It’s all about unlocking the mysteries of the very small in order to provide new opportunities to the world around us. The same is true for micro-self-management.

Hi Sue,
can you tell me what search keywords you were searching? I’ve only been up for 3 weeks! I know I’m #2 for ’stupid questions about life’ (which I thought was funny)

Try the command on google site:yourdomain.com - will list all your site links. http://www.mcdar.net/ has a ton of useful tools. Don’t have anything to do with that site, just use ‘em often.

For those that wanted my real web page link. I have corrected the miss-spell in the link to my nick on that last post. At my age, this happens often….

@Boomer: thanks for the tip. I hadn’t thought of using that before. I do know about the ‘filetype’ trick. E.g. to find PDF documents of ‘Getting Things Done’ you can search:
“Getting things Done” filetype:pdf
