Why must I write?
by blogrdocI thought this morning as I was getting up: “what business does an engineer have doing writing a blog about self help? Why am I even interested in this topic?” As I survey my colleagues at work, I can’t imagine any of them having much to say about self help. I guess I’ve always been the odd ball.
Without too much thought, the answer I came up with is this: I make a living using deductive reasoning, the scientific method, and creative problem solving. Taken from a google search: Deductive reasoning is the process of reasoning that starts from statements accepted as true and applied to a new situation to reach a conclusion. For my profession, I happen to specialize in semiconductor device fabrication, but many of the techniques I’ve learned can be applied to every day life in some way, shape or form.
My fascination with self help, I think, comes from deductive reasoning applied to one’s life. Have you ever felt an immense feeling of accomplishment just from getting your “to-do” list taken care of early in the day? Or maybe, as a student, you read ahead one-day’s lecture, or started on your homework earlier rather than later. Where does this feeling come from? How can it be reproduced? To me, I genuinely believe that these are some of the most important questions to answer. These are the questions I think about. Whether or not I have the answers is a different story.
