Death by a thousand cuts (i.e. email, and other life drains)

by blogrdoc

I just implemented Tim Ferriss’s policy of reducing e-mail checking. It’s baffling how something so obvious … something standing right in front of you … can go totally missed. Yes - I jones for e-mail at times and I’m not at all down to checking e-mail only twice a day. I’m probably down to 4 times a day. Three times at work and once at home. But this is (embarrassingly) a vast improvement from where I was. If nothing else - everytime I think “Maybe I’ll go check my e-mail” - I question whether or not I should. Usually - the answer is no.

I realized the importance of being mindful of whatever it is that you are waiting on. All too often - we wait for a computer to do something, like boot up, or start up a program, or a webpage to load. It all really adds up when you stop and think about it. It’s like death by a thousand cuts.
